Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation enhances the size of breasts. It can also be performed in combination with breast mastopexy to improve breast volume and shape and restore the breast to its original position on the chest.

Dr Victoria will undertake a comprehensive consultation to understand your specific needs, preferences and aesthetic desires. We will discuss options for implant size, shape, texture and position in relation to your chest muscle (pectoralis). The goal is to provide a result that is aesthetically pleasing, which is in proportion to your stature and body shape.

Breast Implants

Dr Victoria works almost exclusively with Mentor breast implants for their safety and durability profile. Mentor have been manufacturing breast implants for 40 years and they offer a wide range of breast implants to suit the majority of women.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Breast augmentation surgery can increase your confidence and self-esteem if you feel that your breasts are not how you would like them. Dr Victoria will explore your goals and wishes for breast augmentation and examine you to see if augmentation surgery can deliver on your expectations. If you prefer bigger, fuller, firmer breasts to complement your overall body shape, then breast augmentation surgery may potentially be for appropriate for you.

The decision to undergo breast augmentation should be for you, and not anyone else. Breast augmentation surgery is a lifetime commitment. You are likely to require implant revision as your body shape changes with age or lifestyle (e.g pregnancy , weight loss). Implants are not lifetime devices and they may age or degrade with time. The expectancy of breast implants is around 10-15 years, though this may vary. Dr Victoria recommends that when considering to embark on this journey, you must consider and be prepared for the cost of replacing the implants and undergoing other surgery in future.

  • Dr Victoria will undergo a ‘sizing’ exercise with you during your consultation to see what your ideal breast volume and shape are. It is, in her experience, unwise to use the concept of ‘cup size’ alone in determining your ideal breast size as bra cup sizes usually vary from shop to shop.

The goal during your consultations will be to establish what look you are trying to achieve – a natural but not overly obvious look, versus a full cleavage with a full breast. Dr Victoria will then examine you and work with you to achieve your desired look.

  • Hybrid breast augmentation is a novel and increasingly popular breast augmentation technique that combines the use of fat transfer to the breasts with breast implants. The benefits of this is that the area where the fat is harvested from – typically stomach and flanks, is left more defined. The fat is then sculpted to your breasts in a bespoke way that implants cannot achieve. The overall result is the use of a smaller lighter implant, with a natural look so that your breast augmentation doesn’t have the ‘stuck on’ look.

  • Most women report only mild to moderate discomfort after breast augmentation surgery.

  • We recommend you stay in hospital for one overnight stay to ensure that your pain and recovery from general anaesthetic is well controlled. This overnight stay is included in the price package. You will have a surgical drain inserted overnight but this is removed before you are discharged home.

We recommend 1-2 weeks off work, depending on the nature of your work and to avoid any strenuous upper body exercise for 3 months. You may be able to begin static lower body exercises earlier, but Dr Victoria will go through this in greater detail during your consultation. You will need to wear a post- surgical compression bra for the first 3 weeks after surgery, followed by a sports bra for the following 3 weeks.

  • As you might expect, the size of implants will produce different results on women with different frames. The key is to choose a size that will give you an overall balanced and proportionate look that aligns with your preferences. During your consultation with Dr Victoria, she will take precise measurements of your chest and breasts and recommend a size that is appropriate for you based on your desired outcome.

You will then be presented with a variety of sizers and sample implants, which will be placed in a sports bra to give you an idea of what your breasts will look like after surgery. Looking at yourself in the mirror wearing a sample implant is the closest approximation you can get to seeing your post-surgery appearance beforehand. The goal is not to focus solely on cup size but rather to achieve the desired breast appearance. In Dr Victoria's experience, it is usually better to err on the side of choosing a slightly larger size than a smaller one, as most women, in hindsight, would have preferred to go slightly larger.

  • In Dr Victoria’s practice, she recommends positioning the scar under the breast, in the fold where your bra underwire normally sits. The scar for breast augmentation is small, typically ranging between 4-5cm. This is in her opinion, the least noticeable place where the scar will not be noticeable in low cut clothing, a bikini or bathing suit.

Scars undergo a maturation period. You should expect for them to be red, raised and lumpy initially but with time, these should fade and flatten.

  • The insertion of a breast implant can create the illusion of a breast lift by expanding the skin envelope of the breast. However, if significant sagging of the breast is present prior to surgery, it will likely reoccur due to the effects of gravity. This can lead to the appearance of larger but sagging breasts post-surgery.

In these cases, a breast lift or mastopexy may be recommended to achieve the desired outcome. This procedure involves tightening the skin envelope around the breast implant and repositioning the nipple to a more desirable level.

  • The cost for breast augmentation surgery will include the surgeon fee, anaesthetist fee and a hospital fee. The price also includes all your post- operative follow up clinic consultations.

On average, the cost is approximately £7200 but this may vary slightly depending on your unique requirements. We will give you a detailed quotation following your consultation.
